Women's History Month

This March, More Curricular is marking Women’s History Month with a free interactive heritage quest through the streets of Hammersmith. Hidden Heroines invites you to uncover the overlooked stories of remarkable women who shaped this corner of west London – and have a lot of fun doing it.

Armed with a set of clues and a secret heritage code to crack, you’ll journey from King Street to the banks of the Thames, piecing together the lives of trailblazing women whose stories deserve to be told.

Who will you discover?

The quest covers a fascinating range of women connected to Hammersmith. Expect to encounter a ground-breaking mayor, an Indian suffragette, entertainment pioneers, a beauty pageant that celebrated Black women, a rowing club that defied convention and an artist whose work was credited to her famous father. Each stop on the route reveals a different story, supported by real historical research.

How it works

The quest is a 90-minute walking route starting outside IKEA on King Street and finishing at The William Morris Society on Upper Mall, right by the river. You’ll solve clues at each stop, building towards a secret heritage code. Crack the code and claim your prize.

You can take part solo, in pairs or as a team. It’s suitable for ages eight and up, making it a brilliant activity for families, friends or anyone who enjoys a good puzzle with a side of local history.

Prizes

Every woman and girl who takes part goes home with a prize – our way of celebrating Women’s History Month. There are additional prizes for winning teams too.
