About the Project

We are creating a comprehensive book that honours and documents the remarkable contributions of Black individuals throughout Hackney's history. This project aims to shine a light on the often-overlooked stories of Black residents who have shaped our community, enriched our culture, and left lasting legacies in Hackney.
           
From community leaders and activists to artists, educators, entrepreneurs, and everyday heroes, this book will serve as an essential resource for understanding the depth and diversity of Black heritage in Hackney. Through careful research and community engagement, we are building a historical record that recognises the vital role Black people have played in making Hackney the vibrant, diverse borough it is today.
